9 ways to Save Money at National Parks

We always see things that tell us to visit national parks, to go visit the beauty. Well no one ever tells you how to SAVE MONEY WHILE YOU’RE THERE! Here are 9 things you can do before visiting that could save you lots of money!

  • Go on a ‘Fee Free’ Day

Each year they have Fee Free days where you can get into the park for free! These are the free dates for 2017!

  1. January 16: Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  2. February 20: Presidents’ Day
  3. April 15-16 and 22-23: Weekends of National Park Week
  4. August 25: National Park Service Birthday
  5. September 30: National Public Lands Day
  6. November 11-12: Veterans Day Weekend
  • Bike into the Park

Usually biking or walking into the park is cheaper than if you drive in! Consider biking or walking into the park for a discounted price!

  • Travel in a Group

At National Parks you pay per car, if you get fit everyone into one car, you won’t need to pay to drive several cars into the park!

  • Consider Camping

Around National Parks, hotels can be expensive. If you want to save money on lodging, consider camping! You may be able to find a cheap/free campsite.

  • Look for Discounts

Ask if they offer discounts for the following: Veterans, AAA members, Seniors, Military, Student or Disability. It doesn’t hurt to ask!

  • Annual Pass

If you plan on going to several National Parks within the year, you may want to consider getting an annual pass. This would be the cheapest way to go.  You may even be able to get a free/discounted annual pass!

FREE annual pass if:

  • You have a disability
  • You are in the military

DISCOUNTED annual pass if:

  • Senior ($10 Lifetime Pass – Must be 62 or Older)
  • Volunteer (Over 250 Service Hours)


  • Every Kid in the Park pass

If you have a kid that is in the 4th grade, you may be able to get a free Park Pass for the whole family! You will want to go to this website, fill out the information and print your pass!

  • Bring your own Supplies

Bring your own supplies including, Food, water, sunscreen, sunglasses, cameras, camping gear, etc. Sometimes these items can be overpriced in the park, this will get you a better deal and save you money!

  • Look for Online Deals

Look online and see if you can find any deals going on! You may be able to find a discounted day pass!
